DEPARTMENT OF ORAL MEDICINE AND RADIOLOGY
OVERVIEW
The primary goals of Oral Medicine and Radiology are Diagnosis and Management of diseases of oral mucosa, Medical management of
oral manifestations of systemic diseases, Management of behavioral disorders, Oral and dental treatment of medically compromised patients. Keeping
this in mind, our Department fosters the development of dental graduates and postgraduates with adequate knowledge, necessary skills & reasonable attitude
which are required for carrying out all activities appropriate to general dental practice involving prevention, diagnosis & treatment of all dental & maxillofacial
pathologies. In oral and dento-maxillofacial radiology, training in detail about the techniques and interpretation of intraoral and extra-oral radiographs and radiographic
diagnosis of the dento-maxillofacial pathoses is provided. The department follows an arduous academic curriculum for both under graduate and post graduate students as per the
university and DCI norms. A 300 bedded Medical hospital along with amenities like CBCT, CT scan, Ultrasound, Blood Bank are attached to the dental college.
All cases with oro-mucosal lesions are treated with various medical therapeutics. They are sent for comprehensive treatment in various specialties.
Sections for Undergraduates and Postgraduates are available separately with specially equipped kavo dental chairs. Department is equipped with a seminar room, clinical diagnostic instruments,
CBCT, an intra oral camera, an autoclave, TENS, therapeutic ultrasound, electronic pulp testers, LCD, slide & over head projectors, digital cameras and computers with internet and printing facilities. The radiology unit is equipped with digital panoramic
machines along with conventional tomography, intra oral radiography units and dark room. The departmental library is equipped with latest editions of Oral Medicine and Radiology & Differential Diagnosis reference books. Postgraduates of the department, carries
out various procedures like biopsy of precancerous lesions and presentation of case reports, journal clubs and seminars on various topics.
The goal of the department is to provide a basic and advanced education in Oral Medicine and Maxillofacial Radiology for an improved understanding of all dental and maxillofacial diseases for appropriate diagnosis,
investigation and management of oro-mucosal lesions, chronic orofacial pain states, temporo-mandibular disorders, dento-maxillofacial pathologies, and oral manifestations of systemic diseases.
